Virtual Meeting Rules and Etiquette

Thank you for joining our virtual education event. To ensure the best possible experience for all event participants, we have established some basic guidelines for participation.

What is a virtual event?
A virtual meeting is one that is held completely online. There are a mix of live educational sessions as well as on-demand sessions where chat and question and answer (Q&A) functionality is used for attendees to engage with the speakers.

The Rules

  • Don’t attack others. The discussions within the Q&A, chat and general discussions within the meeting app and our Zoom Webinar platform are meant to stimulate conversation not to create contention. Let others have their say, just as you may.
  • Don't post commercial messages. Unless the chat is designated specifically for use by our esteemed event partners, we ask that you contact people directly with product and service information if you believe it would help them. The session chat and Q&A will not be used in this manner.
    • Product and services are as follows: promotional material, special offers, job offers, product announcements, or solicitation for services.
    • ISMPP reserves the right to remove such messages and potentially ban sources of those solicitations.
  • Use caution when discussing experiences. Information posted on any platform is available for all to see, and comments are subject to libel, slander, and antitrust laws.
  • All defamatory, abusive, profane, threatening, offensive, or illegal materials are strictly prohibited and will be removed.
  • Do not post anything that you would not want the world to see or that you would not want anyone to know came from you.
  • Please note carefully all items listed in the disclaimer and legal rules below, particularly regarding the copyright ownership of information posted to the meeting app chat, Q&A or message boards; as well as the Zoom chat and Q&A.
  • All speaker approved sessions will be posted for attendee consumption post-event; please do not record sessions or take screenshots/photographs for posting
  • Remember that ISMPP and other participants have the right to reproduce postings.

Some general tips to help you maintain good etiquette when reproducing content.

  • Be courteous. Please ask participants for permission to republish their words elsewhere (especially if elsewhere would be a publicly viewable setting).
  • When citing virtual meeting discussions, please include a link back to the original discussion or to the ISMPP meeting website.

General Virtual Event Etiquette

  • Transparency is very important in gaining trust in online relationships, therefore be clear who you are and who you work for when posting on any platform. This means including your real name upon entry to the meeting room, disclosing your employer and using a profile picture of your likeness and not your company’s logo.
  • Think about what you want to post and decide which platform is best for your message. ISMPP is offering the chat and Q&A within the meeting platforms for specific questions about the topic presented. If you are looking to start a conversation around a broader topic area, please consider the ISMPP Connect community!
