Bio: Slavka Baronikova, PhD; Publications Lead at Shire. Slavka is a clinical pharmacist with academic scientific and educational experience. After moving to pharmaceutical industry and clinical research almost 15 years ago, she followed her passion - scientific disclosure and ethics. She joined the team of publications leads in GSK Vaccines and later in Shire where she leads publication & scientific disclosure teams in different therapeutic areas and at all stages of drug development. Slavka has been an accredited member of EMWA since 2011, EMWA Conference Director since 2014 and a certified ISMPP medical publication professional (CMPP) since 2012.

Patrice Becker


Bio: Medical device industry expert with more than 25 years of experience. He graduated from the Faculty of Pharmacy with a Master's degree in Pharmacology. He graduated from the Business Management Institute with a Master's Degree in Business Administration of Pharmaceutical and Biomedical companies. Joined Sofradim/Medtronic in 1998 to create and lead the clinical research department. Patrice has always been KOL orientated and mindful to develop scientific communications and publications. Leading scientific communication strategy in abdominal wall surgery since 2012, key contributor in establishing the life cycle scientific communication strategy as a process in the company business. Prior to joining Sofradim/Medtronic, I spent almost 5 years as a clinical research manager with BIOMATECH (Consulting and testing company focused on Medical devices). Expert contributor to the ISO 14155 standard. EUCOMED member involved in Clinical Investigation and Evaluation group.

Manon Boisclair

Bio: Manon Boisclair is currently the Director of the Global Publication Operations at Celgene leading a team involved in the strategic optimization of departmental processes and publications activities. She has more than 18 years of experience in the pharmaceutical/biotech industry. During the past 9 years, Manon has held a number of leadership roles in global strategic publication planning, lifecycle management, pre & post-launch activities for several hematology & oncology blockbusters as well as pipeline compounds at Celgene and Novartis. Previously, she has held medical field positions in Canada at Novartis and Merck in oncology, cardiovascular disease and pneumology. Manon completed her graduate studies in nursing at McGill University/University de Montreal (U of M), she has been an adjunct professor at U of M with the faculty of nursing while working as a clinical and research nurse in a teaching hospital (Montreal Heart Institute). Manon is a Certified Medical Publication Professional (CMPP) and ISMPP member, and has been an invited speaker at ISMPP, TIPPA, and CBI. She is actively involved with the ISMPP University committee since the past 5 years, and has also been part of the GPP3 taskforce, and journal reviewer.

Bio: Matthew Booth has 8 years' postdoctoral research at University College London including collaboration with BioVex Inc and 10 years in medical communications fulfilling various writing, account management and management roles, with the last 4 years at PAREXEL International. He currently oversee a team of 30 members of the PAREXEL Scientific Services team responsible for quality delivery, revenue generation, staff training, recruitment, new business and innovation. He has therapy area expertise in Antimicrobials, Cardiology, Dermatology, Endocrinology, Haematology, Immunology, Neurology, Oncology, Pain, Respiratory, Transplantation, Mens Health, Urology, Womens Health Academia and publishing PhD, Biochemistry, Imperial College London Language Editor, Springer Verlag. He is a member of ISMPP and former member of the the ISMPP Advocacy & Outreach Committee

Daniel Bridges

Bio: Dan is currently the Regional Director for Europe and China at Nucleus Global, where he is responsible for the seven medical communication agencies (Articulate Science, Cognito Medical, Health Interactions, Medical Expressions, Meditech Media, Meditech Media China & Scimentum) that support clients across these regions and globally. In his 13 years in medical communications, Dan has specialised in building integrated publication planning offerings in both the clinical and HEOR fields and has led global and affiliate publication plans across multiple therapeutic areas and all stages of the product lifecycle. He has also provided extensive consultancy support to clients in the development of publication SOPs and integration of best practice guidelines. He currently serves on the ISMPP Board of Trustees and was an author on both GPP2 and GPP3. Prior to his medical communications career, Dan gained an MSC in Biochemistry from the University of Bath, UK and a PhD on the clinical use of cannabinoids for neuropathic pain from Imperial College London, UK (in collaboration with Novartis).

Chris Carrigan

Bio: Chris Carrigan is a specialist in cancer data and information, but with a particular focus on patient involvement and patient power, based from the University of Leeds MRC Bioinformatics Centre. Chris was a founding member of the National Cancer Intelligence Network (NCIN), a partnership funded by a range of bodies, including the public sector and leading cancer charities, tasked with providing new insights and intelligence into cancer inequalities, diagnosis, care, outcomes and experience, putting patients at the heart of how their data is used. In 2014 he was named as one of the Health Service Journals Top 50 Innovators in the NHS for his innovative and collaborative approach to patient empowerment, and also featured on BBC Radio 4's Networking Nation series, where the NCIN was highlighted as a leading example of how best a network can operate. In June 2015 Chris began to build a movement of patients who wanted to develop a detailed understanding of "all things data". The movement, labelled by the patients as "use MY data", has developed a growing profile and increasing numbers of members and associates, and has made presentations at local, national and EU events. In February 2017 Chris will chair the new Independent Group Advising on the Release of Data (IGARD), a group of lay members providing independent advice and oversight to NHS Digital.

Bio: Martin Delahunty is Global Director of Nature Partner Journals based in Springer Natures London Campus. Martin has responsibility across five global office locations to develop Nature Partner Journals (NPJs), a new series of online-only, open access journals, published in collaboration with world-renowned partners. Martin has a Degree in Natural Sciences from Trinity College in Dublin, Ireland and a Masters in Business Administration from The Open University. He is also Secretary and Trustee for the International Society for Medical Publication Professionals.

Emma Dennett

Bio: Emma Dennett (nee Welsh) is the Managing Editor of the Cochrane Airways Group. She supports authors from around the globe to write Cochrane Reviews and disseminates Cochrane Evidence. Emma manages the editorial process from the initiation of review titles through peer review and publication. Emma critically comments on each Cochrane Review after submission to the editorial process and oversees the collation and incorporation of editorial comments ensuring that the reviews are ready for sign-off and publication. Emma has authored eight Cochrane Reviews on asthma, COPD and bronchiectasis, including one overview of Cochrane Reviews. Cochrane Reviews contribute to healthcare decision- making and are frequently used to support international clinical guidelines. Emma's background is in organic chemistry and she gained her PhD for the total synthesis of aphanorphine. A postdoctoral fellowship in medicinal chemistry followed at the Institute of Cancer Research before side-stepping into a research assistant role writing Cochrane Reviews. Emma has worked with Sense About Science and Cochrane UK on a guide on Making Sense of Allergies which responded to misconceptions that people have about allergies.

Dr. PJ Devereaux

McMaster University

Bio: Dr. Devereaux obtained his MD from McMaster University. After medical school he completed a residency in internal medicine at the University of Calgary and a residency in cardiology at Dalhousie University. He then completed a PhD in Clinical Epidemiology at McMaster University. He is the Director of the Division of Cardiology at McMaster University. He is also the Scientific Leader of the Anesthesiology, Perioperative Medicine, and Surgical Research Group at the Population Health Research Institute. The focus of his clinic research is vascular complications around the time of surgery. He is undertaking several large international RCTs and observational studies addressing this issue. Dr. Devereaux is a full Professor and University Scholar in the Departments of Clinical Epidemiology and Biostatistics and Medicine at McMaster University.

Bio: Beatrix originally trained as a vet. Subsequently, she became involved in clinical research, holding increasingly senior roles. In 2011 Beatrix established her own company, CORIUVAR consulting, which focuses on clinical research consulting and medical writing for medical devices. More recently, Beatrix was elected as an executive committee member of EMWA and took up the role of public relations officer. Among her many responsibilities, Beatrix and her team look after social media, promotion and advertisement, cross-functional relationships and the Internship Forum for new writers.

Simon Foulcer

Bio: Simon Foulcer is a Senior Medical Writer at Costello Medical Consulting. Before joining Costello in 2015, Simon completed a PhD in Biochemistry at the University of Manchester, undertook a 2-year post-doctoral fellowship at the Cleveland Clinic USA, and completed a 1-year teaching fellowship at Keele Medical School. In his role as Senior Medical Writer, Simon manages a range of publication types, including manuscript and congress publications.

Bio: Keith is a Medical Communications professional and Lean Six Sigma practitioner with expertise in Scientific Communication Platforms and Global Publication Planning during all stages of the product lifecycle. Throughout his career, Keith has worked across multiple therapeutic areas with an emphasis in Hematology/Oncology and was a medical and regulatory writer. Prior to his Medical Communications career, Keith obtained a Bachelors of Science in Chemistry from Fisk University in Nashville, Tennessee and a Doctor of Philosophy in Molecular, Cellular, and Biochemical Pharmacology at The University of Cincinnati in Cincinnati, Ohio. Keith also completed a Post-doctoral Fellowship in Clinical Pharmacology and Pharmacogenomics from The University of Chicago in Chicago, Illinois. Currently, he is the Publication Lead for Bleeding Disorders at Shire, Plc.

Fiona Godlee


Bio: Fiona Godlee has been Editor-in-Chief of the BMJ since 2005. She qualified as a doctor in 1985, trained as a general physician in Cambridge and London, and is a Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians. Since joining the BMJ in 1990 she has written on a broad range of issues, including the impact of environmental degradation on health, the future of the World Health Organisation, the ethics of academic publication, and the problems of editorial peer review. In 1994 she spent a year at Harvard University as a Harkness Fellow evaluating efforts to bridge the gap between medical research and practice. On returning to the UK, she led the development of BMJ Clinical Evidence, which evaluates the best available evidence on the benefits and harms of treatments and is now provided worldwide to over a million clinicians in 9 languages. In 2000 she moved to Current Science Group to establish the open access online publisher BioMed Central as Editorial Director for Medicine. In 2003 she returned to the BMJ Group to head up its new Knowledge division. She has served as President of the World Association of Medical Editors (WAME) and Chair of the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE) and is co-editor of Peer Review in Health Sciences.
