Charley Rosenblum, ISMPP CMPP™, Director of Publications Management, Global Scientific and Medical Publications Department, Merck & Co.

Competitive intelligence (CI)—the gathering, analysis, and application of information pertaining to other companies or products in one’s market—can have a significant impact on publication strategy and planning. The more you know about competitors’ timing of data release, key messaging, strengths, and weaknesses, the better informed your own publication strategy and tactics can be. This program will provide an overview of the key objectives of CI monitoring, what data should be collected, and which tools can be used to collect that data. Specific examples of decisions informed by CI will be discussed.

At the end of this session, participants should be able to:

  • Identify key considerations and available sources for including CI in publication planning

  • Understand how CI can be used ethically to inform a publication plan

  • Have a better understanding of tools that can be used to track CI for publication planning purposes
