Valerie Philippon

Bio: Valerie Philippon is the Head of Global Publications at Shire, now a part of Takeda, a leading global biotech in rare diseases with medicines in over 100 countries. She leads the publications teams responsible for publications related to all company therapeutic areas (hematology, immunology, gastrointestinal/internal medicine, neuroscience, ophthalmics, genetic diseases) across various geographies. Valrie has over 20 years of experience in Research, Development, and Medical Communications. She received her Ph.D. in Microbiology from the University Denis Diderot Paris, France and completed a post-doctoral fellowship at Harvard School of Public Health. She has held various Publications and Scientific Communication roles with increasing responsibilities at Idenix, Vertex, AVEO Oncology, and Cubist before joining Shire.

Andy Powrie-Smith

Bio: Mr. Powrie-Smith joined EFPIA in 2015, and has been responsible for the creation and delivery of EFPIA's communication strategy. He has also served as Co-chair of the EFPIA Patient Think Tank and Chair of the EFPIA Communications Network. Prior to EFPIA, Mr. Powrie-Smith worked at the Association of the British Pharmaceutical Industry (ABPI), serving as Director of ABPI Scotland and managing ABPI's Reputation Strategy group.

Bio: Nicole heads Global Medical Communications at Boehringer Ingelheim since summer 2018 after having headed the Global Scientific Communications Team from 2012 to 2018. Global Medical Communications is responsible for Medical Information and Medical Publications. This includes the planning and development of all global scientific publications for Boehringer Ingelheim's main therapeutic areas, respiratory, cardiovascular and metabolic diseases as well as oncology, immunology and CNS. In total, she has over 10 years of experience within the field of scientific publications having also worked as Global Publications Strategy Manager in prior roles at Boehringer Ingelheim, Warner Chilcott Pharmaceuticals and Procter & Gamble Pharmaceuticals. Nicole holds a Ph.D. in Biochemistry and a Master degree in Advanced Oncology.

Bio: Tom has over 20 years' experience in medical communications and publications planning, and is currently a Communications Director at Oxford PharmaGenesis, having previously held roles in strategic consultancy, as a team leader and lead medical writer. Tom is a regular contributor to the US and European ISMPP meetings, and has delivered a number of workshops and new research presentations on the topics of publications innovations, good publications practice, and patient communications, publication metrics (including altmetrics), and social media. He currently serves on the ISMPP Social Media/Web-based Metrics Working Group and is a past member of the ISMPP Credentialing and Global Workshop Committees. Tom holds a PhD in Biotechnology from Cranfield University in the UK, and is CMPP certified.
