Standards & Guidelines Platform

This Platform establishes the protocol for standards and best practices for medical publication professionals, documents the processes, and establishes the basis for communicating this information to the ISMPP membership.

Included are the Standards and the Ethics Committees.

Standards Committee

This Committee endeavors to discover, document, and promote best practices in medical publications and publication planning to establish appropriate standards within the profession. The Committee promotes sharing of innovative methods, approaches, and solutions to common challenges, as well as the adoption of consensus guidelines that are pragmatic, repeatable, and significantly enhance the professional practices of ISMPP members.

Remit for 2012-2013
• Finalization and roll-out of Standards Handbook modules
• Member Toolkit, including author invitations and agreements, as well as other "how-to" documents, practical tools, and checklists
• Revamp the 2008 ISMPP Glossary (to be included in Toolkit)
• Oversee development of Handbook section of ISMPP website
• Assist in informing ISMPP educational content initiatives (eg, the map, Annual and European Meetings, ISMPP U, etc.)
• Communication of committee activities to the Society and other committees via minutes/summary

Ethics Committee

This Committee strives to identify appropriate ethical standards within medical publishing and use them to develop a statement on behalf of the Society to serve as a benchmark for those within the profession. With the release of the updated ISMPP Code of Ethics, committee members will continue to develop programs to ensure that the membership understands these ethical standards and how to best incorporate them into their professional practices.

Remit for 2012-2013
• Review and update the Code of Ethics as needed
• Provide practical application of the ethics policy for the Society 's members (e.g., company guidelines, case studies)
• Develop articles on ethics in medical writing.
• Assist in informing ISMPP educational content initiatives (e.g., the map, Annual and European Meetings, ISMPP U, etc)
• Communication of committee activities to the Society and other committees via minutes/summary
