Al Weigel

Bio: Al Weigel is President and COO for the International Society for Medical Publication Professionals (ISMPP). Al joined ISMPP in November of 2013 with primary responsibility for implementing the strategic goals and vision of the Society, in addition to ensuring the Society meets established milestones for ongoing development, growth and success. Prior to joining ISMPP, Al led cross-therapeutic medical publication and scientific communication teams at sanofi-aventis, Boehringer-Ingelheim and Celgene Corporation. Al earned his Masters of Education at the University of the Arizona and currently is a ISMPP Certified Medical Publication Professional (CMPP).

Bio: Richard White is Commercial Director of Oxford PharmaGenesis, an independent HealthScience communications consultancy. He has more than 18 years of experience in medical communications, and has led launch publications plans for products across a broad range of therapy areas. Richard is a member of the International Society for Medical Publications Professionals (ISMPP), the International Society of Pharmacoeconomics and Outcomes Research (ISPOR) and the Institute of Directors. He was a reviewer of the GPP2 and GPP3 guidelines, and has personally authored 17 publications in peer-reviewed journals. Richard has also published white papers on good publication practice, value demonstration and rare diseases in Pharmaceutical Marketing Europe, is an invited author of articles for ISMPP's MAP e-newsletter, and is on the Editorial Board of Drugs in Context. Richard founded the Oxford PharmaGenesis Value Demonstration Practice to apply good publication practice and communications expertise to HEOR, RWE and patient-reported outcomes (PRO) studies. He has run training workshops in these areas for multiple pharma companies and academic institutions, and has delivered invited presentations, educational webinars and moderated roundtable discussions on publications and communications best practice in HEOR, RWE and PROs at the ISMPP and TIPPA Annual Meetings. Richard was Chair of the 2017 TIPPA Annual Meeting. Before joining Oxford PharmaGenesis, Richard gained his MA and PhD in Natural Sciences from the University of Cambridge, UK. His PhD research won the 1998 Glaxo Wellcome Young Investigator's Award, and he was awarded a Research Fellowship in Pharmacology at Sidney Sussex College, Cambridge. He has completed the Advanced Health Economic Modeling Programme at the University of Oxford, is an alumnus of the International Marketing Programme at INSEAD, and is a member of Green Templeton College, University of Oxford, UK.

Bio: Jurgen, PhD, ISMPP CMPP, has over 15 years of international pharmaceutical/biotech experience in medical affairs and clinical development (Publications/Scientific and Regulatory Writing; Medical Information, Communication and Education). Prior to industry career, Jurgen studied biology, gained his PhD in Finland and lead academic research programs in Finland and Switzerland. His industry experience comes from Orion Pharma, Merck Serono, Ferring Pharmaceuticals and, most recently, from Shire, where Jurgen works as a Director, Global Scientific Publications since 2011.

David Williams

Bio: David is a physician with 10 years' clinical experience in primary and secondary care in the UK and Australia, as well as over 17 years as a pharmaceutical physician with a specific interest in the medical role in health policy and market access. David has provided medical leadership in numerous launch teams, lead successful HTA submissions and has a wide therapeutic experience. In addition to 12 years of medical roles including regional and affiliate level leadership roles, he has also roles in as Head of HEOR for Global R&D AstraZeneca as well as Global Head of Government Affairs in AZ. In addition to his medical degree, David is also a Masters graduate in Heath Economics and Evidence-Based Medicine. David joined Sanofi in 2015 as Medical Director and then Country Medical Chair in the UK & Ireland, and since April 2016 has been Global Head of Medical Education and Scientific Communications reporting to Dr Sandra Silvestri in GEM. He has been married to Ruth for 25 years and they have two sons: Felix and Seth.

Bio: Chris Winchester is Managing Director of Oxford PharmaGenesis, an independent HealthScience communications consultancy with a strong heritage in publications. Now in its 20th year, Oxford PharmaGenesis employs over 200 communications professionals in Europe, North America and Asia Pacific. Chris is Chair Elect of ISMPP, led the development of the AMWA-EMWA-ISMPP Joint Position Statement on the role of the professional medical writer, and has been involved in collaborative research on the value of professional medical writing support. He has a doctorate in Biochemistry, has co-authored articles in the fields of cardiology, gastroenterology and respiratory medicine, and is an Associate Member of Green Templeton College, Oxford.

Bio: Professor Karen Woolley is Certified Medical Publication Professional. She has 25 years of experience in the healthcare sector, gained in academia, hospital, industry, and agency environments in North America and the Asia Pacific region. She has led international teams to conduct and publish research on publication ethics and on patient engagement in evidence generation and communication. In 2000, Karen co-founded the Asia Pacific medical communication agency, ProScribe, which is proudly part of the global Envision Pharma Group. She has a strong focus on strategic initiatives in the medical affairs sector and leads teams in Envision's Tokyo and Sydney offices. Karen has served on ISMPP's Board of Trustees, chaired ISMPPs Asia Pacific Advisory Committee, and co-authored the Good Publication Practice 3 guidelines and the Joint Position Statement on Professional Medical Writers. She is an Honorary Fellow of AMWA, a Life Member of ARCS, and initiated the Global Alliance of Publication Professionals. She is a Professor at two universities and has been a government-appointed director overseeing 6 hospitals, serving on the Patient Safety and Quality Committee, and managing a $2B budget.
