Bio: Simon is Managing Scientific Director at Cambridge Medical Communication, a small, well-established agency based near Cambridge, UK. In his current role, Simon has a range of responsibilities including team management, recruitment, business development and company finance, as well as providing management support to the company's client accounts. He has a wealth of experience in medical publications, having previously led a medical writing division for a number of years, and is currently a member of the ISMPP Ethics Committee and a section editor for EMWA's Medical Writing magazine. Simon holds a PhD in Medicinal Chemistry and a Master's degree in Natural Sciences from the University of Cambridge.

Marie-Claire Pickaert

Deputy Director General

Bio: Ms Pickaert is the Deputy Director General of EFPIA, member of EFPIA's General Management. Since 2008, Ms Pickaert is coordinating EFPIA's ethics and compliance activities. Following the adoption of the 2010 Leadership Statement calling for greater transparency, accountability and ethical behaviour within and industry framework of self-regulation, she took the lead of activities including the creation of the EFPIA e4ethics platform and the development of the EFPIA Disclosure Code. She is acting as the Chief Ethics & Compliance Officer at EFPIA. In 2015, she was asked to take the role of Ambassador to the Medical Communities, coordinating EFPIA's relationships with medical & scientific societies, including learned societies, also through professional communities within the pharmaceutical companies that interact with medical communities.

Nigel Praities


Bio: Nigel was appointed editor of Pulse in 2014, after being deputy editor for two years. He started out freelancing for the Guardian newspaper and as a reporter at Research Fortnight magazine before joining Pulse in 2007. As a reporter, he specialised in clinical news and broke a number of exclusive stories that made national newspaper headlines. He was named 'Editor of the Year' two years running in the Business category at the British Society of Magazine Editors Awards in 2015 and 2016 and ¿Publication Editor of the Year¿ by the Medical Journalists¿ Association Awards in 2014 and once again in 2017. Under his editorship, Pulse was named ¿Business Magazine of the Year¿ by the Professional Publishers Association in 2016 and twice at the PPA Independent Publisher Awards, picking up the prize in 2014 and 2015. He has a MSc in Science Communication from Imperial College London and a BSc in Physiology from University College London.
