Bio: Simon is Managing Scientific Director at Cambridge Medical Communication, a small, well-established agency based near Cambridge, UK. Bio: Valerie Philippon is the Head of Global Publications at Shire, a leading global biotech in rare diseases with medicines in over 100 countries. She leads the publications teams responsible for publications related to all company therapeutic areas (hematology, immunology, oncology, gastrointestinal/internal medicine, neuroscience, ophthalmics, genetic diseases) across various geographies. Valrie has over 20 years of experience in Research, Development, and Medical Communications. She received her Ph.D. in Microbiology from the University Denis Diderot Paris, France and completed a post-doctoral fellowship at Harvard School of Public Health. She has held various Publications and Scientific Communication roles with increasing responsibilities at Idenix, Vertex, AVEO Oncology, and Cubist before joining Shire.

Bio: Fiona Plunkett has been Director of Client Services for Articulate Science for the past year after spending nine years in various client services positions for Health Interactions. Andy Powrie-Smith

Bio: Mr. Powrie-Smith joined EFPIA in 2015, and has been responsible for the creation and delivery of EFPIA's communication strategy. He has also served as Co-chair of the EFPIA Patient Think Tank and Chair of the EFPIA Communications Network. Prior to EFPIA, Mr. Powrie-Smith worked at the Association of the British Pharmaceutical Industry (ABPI), serving as Director of ABPI Scotland and managing ABPI's Reputation Strategy group.

Nigel Praities


Bio: Nigel was appointed editor of Pulse in 2014, after being deputy editor for two years. He started out freelancing for the Guardian newspaper and as a reporter at Research Fortnight magazine before joining Pulse in 2007. As a reporter, he specialised in clinical news and broke a number of exclusive stories that made national newspaper headlines. He was named 'Editor of the Year' two years running in the Business category at the British Society of Magazine Editors Awards in 2015 and 2016 and 'Publication Editor of the Year' by the Medical Journalists' Association Awards in 2014 and once again in 2017. Under his editorship, Pulse was named 'Business Magazine of the Year' by the Professional Publishers Association in 2016 and twice at the PPA Independent Publisher Awards, picking up the prize in 2014 and 2015. He has a MSc in Science Communication from Imperial College London and a BSc in Physiology from University College London.
