Bio: Lisa Baker, PhD, CMPP, is an experienced publications professional who previously worked full-time at leading agencies including inScience Communications, Springer Healthcare (Medical Director, 2015-17) and Envision Pharma Group (Principal Medical Writer/Team Lead, 2010-2015). Lisa is now a freelance medical writer developing publications, strategic publication deliverables and educational materials for pharmaceutical and medical communications clients.

Patricia Baskin

Neurology Journals

Bio: Patricia (Patty) Baskin, MS, is Executive Editor of the four Neurology journals. She worked in genetics research before assuming positions of Executive Managing Editor, Manager of Program Operations, and Managing Editor at various bioscience journals. She is currently President of the Council of Science Editors and previously served as Editor-in-Chief of Science Editor, has served as faculty for several CSE short courses (publication management, publication ethics, electronic publication), and established the CSE publication ethics course and an editors' course (in Brazil). She has developed numerous seminars and workshops on publication metrics, ethics and misconduct, authorship criteria, ghostwriting, conflict of interest, Web design, open access, and other topics common to publication professionals. She manages a team of 12 people who create the weekly Neurology journal plus three bi-monthly spin-off journals, two mini-sites, a Resident & Fellow site, a weekly podcast, a weekly press release, a journal CME program, and a Patient Page site.

Chris Baumle


Bio: Chris Baumle is Executive Publisher, Health and Medical Sciences, Elsevier. Chris's career in medical publishing spans over 30 years. He currently manages a portfolio of journals in specialties including pharmacy and pharmaceutical sciences, rehabilitation, infection control, and allied health. Chris is a graduate of Stockton University and lives in southern New Jersey with his family and two cats.

Gregory Bezkorovainy

Bio: Gregory Bezkorovainy is Vice President of Scientific Services at Adelphi Communications in New York. He entered the healthcare communications field in 1988, just as strategic publications planning was taking root in the pharmaceutical industry. Over the years he has worn almost every publications planning hat imaginable, including medical reporter, editor, writer, designer, tactical planner, and strategic planner. Gregory joined Adelphi, Inc in 2002 and has been in his current position since 2006. This is Gregory's seventh consecutive year as faculty for Introduction to Publications Planning.

Yukti Bharwani

Cactus Communications Pvt. Ltd.

Bio: Yukti has over 8 years of experience in the scientific communications industry-first as a science editor herself and later managing operations for a large editorial and publication support team at Editage, a division of Cactus Communications. During her tenure at Editage, Yukti interacted with researchers from the Asia-Pacific region. She was instrumental in developing targeted solutions for difficulties faced by ESL authors in the publication process. Her efforts have ranged from developing publication strategies for authors at various stages of their academic career to guiding her team of science editors and writers to consistently offer high-value publication services such as manuscript rewriting, journal recommendation, and scientific illustration services. A firm believer in creating awareness of ethical publication practices, Yukti has conducted a number of workshops on issues relevant to the journal publication process, including one on Navigating the Publication Process and Common Editorial Mistakes at the 36th Annual Meeting of the Molecular Biology Society of Japan in December 2013. Yukti has a Master's degree in Environmental Science and an ELS certification from the Board of Editors in the Life Sciences (BELS).

Angela Bickford

Bio: Angela is the R&D Publication Lead in the Publications ¿ Disclosure Practices¿ group at GSK. She has 17 years of experience working in a global publication role including employment at Eli Lilly & Co and Novartis. She has been with GSK nine years. Her current responsibilities include oversight of publication planning and development in R&D. She also manages direct reports, leads global publication teams in the Neuroscience therapeutic area and develops training materials for internal employees. She has been a member of the ISMPP Board of Trustees since 2015.

Bio: Liz Bilodeau is a Senior Client Engagement Manager at Copyright Clearance Center (CCC). CCC is a global leader in content management, discovery and document delivery solutions. Through its relationships with those who use and create content, CCC drives market-based solutions that accelerate knowledge, power publishing and advance copyright. With its subsidiaries RightsDirect and Ixxus, CCC provides solutions for millions of people from the world's largest companies and academic institutions. Liz has developed a deep appreciation of the concerns and needs of content users worldwide since joining CCC in 2005. She spends much of her time helping Corporate clients with their Annual Copyright License, Motion Picture License, Music Use License and RightFind Software. She is focused on ensuring clients understand the boundaries of their license, assisting with permissions and educating clients on the basics of copyright.

Robert Boothroyd

Bio: Robert is an Associate Director within the Global Medical Affairs Scientific Communication - Oncology team at Novartis Pharmaceuticals, with over 6 years of pharmaceutical experience in global and regional medical affairs management. In his current role, he oversees all aspects medical communication, publication, and disease education for malignant hematology at Novartis Oncology. Robert completed his PharmD/PhD degree at the Massachusetts College of Pharmacy in 2011 and also completed the Rutgers Pharmaceutical Industry Fellowship in 2013.

Jessica Bowler

Bio: Jessica Bowler is currently an Associate Director on the Agency Team within Global Procurement at Pfizer Inc. overseeing the Global Medical Education and Publication Categories. Jessica joined Pfizer in January 2002 and during her career at Pfizer has supported Clinical Trials as a Study Manager and worked on other Indirect Categories in Procurement including but not limited to: QA, Safety and Medical Information. Prior to joining Pfizer, Jessica worked at Organon and Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center. Jessica has a BA in Health and Society from University of Rochester and an MBA in Health Care Administration from Baruch College and Mt. Sinai School of Medicine.

Tracy Bunting-Early

Bio: Tracy Bunting-Early is the Publications Lead for hematologic- oncology and thoracic-oncology publications at AstraZeneca Pharmaceuticals. She began her career in pharmaceutical advertising after obtaining her PhD in molecular biology from Rutgers University. Prior to working at AstraZeneca, Tracy led a boutique medical communications company for over 15 years providing content more than 200 projects for over 50 manufacturers supporting medical content across medical affairs, commercial, and medical education. She is also the founder and CEO of Outcomes Positive, a not-for- profit, think-tank leading a medical advisory board in research and development of educational materials to improve diagnosis of kidney infections in very young children, which affect over 400,000 children in the US each year. She is a Tar Heel fan owing to having attended the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill for her undergraduate training. She lives in Landenberg, PA with her husband, Steve, and her 11-year-old daughter.

Gary Burd

Bio: Gary has 13 years of medical communications and scientific publishing experience. He joined McCann Complete Medical in 2006, and is now SVP, Global Medical Director for Caudex, based in their New York office. Gary has led communication planning and publication planning activities in several therapy areas and has collaborated with teams in many European and US pharmaceutical companies, including Bayer Schering, Roche, Lundbeck, Novartis, Novo Nordisk, Boehringer Ingelheim, GSK, AstraZeneca, BMS, Merck Serono, EMD Serono, Pfizer, and, more recently, Japanese pharmaceutical companies Chugai and Mitsubishi Tanabe. Prior to his medical communications career he gained valuable editorial experience in journal publishing with Portland Press. Gary obtained his PhD from the Kennedy Institute of Rheumatology, London working on a monoclonal antibody therapy for systemic lupus erythematosus.

Hilary Carson

Bio: Hilary is Director of Business Development at Adelphi Communications, New York ¿ and has worked in digital media at NBC Universal Digital Health and is a member of the Omnicom Health Group Digital Council Leaders. Hilary is a graduate of The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and earned a Master¿s Degree in marketing from Dublin City University.

Alice Choi

Bio: Alice Choi is currently the Global Head of Complete Medical Communications (CMC), a division of McCann Complete Medical. Alice has an honours degree in Pharmacology, a Masters Degree in Clinical Pharmacology, a Masters in Public Health and a doctorate in cancer epidemiology. Pre CMC, Alice began her career in academia as a researcher before moving on to a number of healthcare agencies, working in medical communications, market research and health outcomes. Since joining CMC in 2002, Alice has held a number of different roles, including account director and commercial director, before taking up her current position in 2006. In this role, she oversees a multidisciplinary team based in offices across the UK and the US. Alongside her broader operational responsibilities, Alice continues to work closely with several clients. Having 20+ years of experience in a range of different therapy areas, she assists clients with a variety of projects including communication planning, Phase IIIB/IV planning, stakeholder services and general consultancy - in particular, publication planning and best practice scientific exchange are important areas for Alice and the wider CMC team. Alice is a Certified Medical Publication Professional and has contributed to several ISMPP committees over the years. She currently serves on the Advocacy and Outreach Committee, is a Past Chair of the Board of Trustees for ISMPP and was the Chair of the 2016 Annual Program Committee. She also serves as a Governor for The Christie NHS Foundation Trust, one of Europe's leading cancer centres.

Juli Clark


Bio: Juli has directed the Global Medical Writing department at Amgen for 10 years, and has 20 years of experience in the biotech industry, having managed staff and services in Medical Writing, Medical Information and Medical Communication roles. Prior to joining Amgen, she worked for two smaller companies (Pathogenesis, and Otsuka). Juli earned her B.S. Pharmacy and Doctor of Pharmacy degrees at University of Iowa, completing a General Hospital Pharmacy Residency program, and a Fellowship in Ambulatory Care Clinical Pharmacy. Before entering the biotech/pharma industry, Juli practiced as a clinical pharmacy specialist in a variety of settings including managed care, Indian Health Service, private and large University Hospitals. Juli was Vice-Chair of the 12th Annual Meeting of ISMPP and will be assuming the role of Chair, ISMPP Board of Trustees at the end of the 13th Annual Meeting. She has been an active participant/presenter in the Medical Publishing Insights and Practices Initiative (MPIP) as well as with ISMPP, AMWA and DIA.

Rhonda Croxton

Bio: Rhonda has worked in the medical communications industry for the past 13+ years, with both agency and pharmaceutical industry experience in her background. After earning her PhD and completing a 2-year postdoc in oncology research, she began her medical communications career as a Medical Writer with Trinity Communications, Inc, and later grew into the role of Medical Director during her first tenure with Complete Healthcare Communications (CHC), Inc. During those 4 years of medical communications agency experience, she acquired a solid foundation in publication planning and content development across a variety of therapeutic areas and types of deliverable. After honing her skills on the agency side of the industry, she joined AstraZeneca as a Clinical Publications Lead to experience medical communications from the pharmaceutical industry perspective. Currently, as Sr VP of Clinical Content & Editorial Services with CHC Group, Rhonda oversees a team of 30+ Scientific Directors, Medical Writers, and Medical Editors and is responsible for ensuring client satisfaction with editorial quality, efficient resourcing of scientific/editorial staff to manage workloads, and adherence to the highest ethical standards for medical communications in the industry. Rhonda served as a member of the ISMPP Standards Committee in 2014 and contributed to the development of GPP3 as a reviewer of the draft version of the document. Rhonda is a strong advocate for the vision and mission of ISMPP and has been a member since its inception in 2005.

Elvira D'souza

Cactus Communications Pvt Ltd.

Bio: Elvira D'souza has over 10 years of experience in the medical communications industry. Elvira has a very good understanding of the logistics of global outsourcing of medical writing services and works extensively with key decision makers within pharmaceutical/device companies globally to develop long-term relationships and provide solutions for assistance with multiple types of projects including publication planning, graphics support, regulatory writing, and marketing support documentation across a range of therapeutic areas. During her tenure at CACTUS, Elvira has also gained expertise in interacting with individual authors/researchers from all over the globe, especially in the Asia-Pacific region. Elvira helped conduct the first BELS exam in India and has also proctored subsequent BELS exams in the country. She has a Bachelor's degree in life sciences from the University of Mumbai and a master's in business administration from Narsee Monjee Institute of Management Studies in Mumbai, India. She also has an ELS certification from the Board of Editors in the Life Sciences and is a certified medical publication professional.

Ann Davis

Bio: Ann L. Davis is a medical publications consultant with more than 25 years in the medical communications field. Her experience includes content development roles at Centocor Ortho Biotech (now Janssen Pharmaceuticals) and Bristol-Myers Squibb. At BMS, she also served as a Global Publication Advisor, developing publications policies and practices, as well as advising and training internal stakeholders and agency partners. An ISMPP-certified medical publication professional, she has served as presenter at TIPPA and other publication planning seminars, workshop leader for the American Medical Writers Association, author of multiple ISMPP poster presentations, and member of various ISMPP committees. Ann completed her graduate studies at the University of Texas Houston Health Science Center.

Kay Dickersin

Bloomberg School of Public Health, Johns Hopkins

Bio: Kay Dickersin, M.A., Ph. D. is Professor of Epidemiology at the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health, where she serves as the Director for the Center for Clinical Trials and Evidence Synthesis. She is also Director of the U.S. Cochrane Center. Kay's main research contributions have been in the area of scientific integrity, reporting biases, trials registration, clinical trials, systematic reviews and meta-analysis. Kay's research has involved comparing internal company documents to the published record, where she and her colleagues have found differing results. She is currently engaged in examining practical issues related to demands for "open access to trial data," when the available data may be discordant.

Tania Dickson

ProScribe - Envision Pharma Group

Bio: Tania Dickson received her Doctorate in prostate cancer from the Institute of Reproduction and Development at Monash University in Melbourne Australia, where she evaluated the role of the TGF-beta superfamily on normal and neoplastic growth of the prostate. She completed her postdoctoral fellowship at the Ingram Cancer Center at Vanderbilt University in Nashville Tennessee USA. After her fellowship, Tania joined Merck and Co, Inc in Blue Bell Pennsylvania as a Senior Medical writer supporting the cardiovascular clinical group. During her tenure at Merck, Tania contributed to more than 15 peer reviewed manuscripts, of which she is an author of eight. Tania left Merck to join Elsevier where she was a medical director for Carus Clinical Communications an Elsevier Business and subsequently was promoted to Vice President of the Elsevier Office of Continuing Medical Education. Tania joined ProScribe in December 2013 and has over 15 years of experience in medical communications. She has written abstracts, posters, manuscripts, slide kits, and content for advisory boards on a wide range of topics in various therapeutic areas.

Riad Dirani

Teva Pharmaceuticals

Bio: Riad Dirani, PhD, is currently the VP of Global Health Economic and Outcomes Research at Teva Pharmaceuticals. His responsibilities include overseeing the establishment of this function within Medical Affairs, and developing the strategic capabilities for HEOR to optimize the development and commercialization of Teva¿s portfolio of products and offerings globally. Riad has worked in the pharmaceutical industry since 2000, including positions of increasing responsibility at Aventis, GlaxoSmithKline, Pfizer, and Johnson & Johnson in multiple therapeutic areas. Riad joined Teva in 2014 to build the HEOR group and establish it operating model. Riad received his Ph.D. in Health Services Research/Health Economics from The Pennsylvania State University. He has published over 25 journal articles and made numerous presentations to professional organizations, including the International Society for Pharmacoeconomics and Outcomes Research (ISPOR) and therapeutic-specific conferences.
