Gary Burd

Bio: Gary has 13 years of medical communications and scientific publishing experience. Bio: Jovelle graduated from BS Biology and Doctor of Medicine (Saint Louis University, Philippines) and is an Obstetrician Gynecologist with specialty in Reproductive Endocrinology, Infertility and Gynecologic Oncology. She obtained Doctor of Philosophy major in Surgical Sciences and did post-doctoral studies in the field of Molecular Biology and Oncology (Kobe University Graduate School of Medicine, Japan). She also obtained various business certifications and executive education programs from Harvard School of Medicine, University of Pennsylvania Wharton School of Business, INSEAD, Rotterdam School of Management and Oxford Said Business School. She was awarded the best poster presentation by the Japan Society of Obstetrics and Gynecology in 1999, and in 2005, obtained the best oral presenter award and Young Gynecologist Award from the Asia Oceania Federation of Obstetrics and Gynecology. She has published over 30 studies in peer-reviewed journals and has made over 100 oral presentations/chaired scientific sessions in Asia Pacific including Japan, Europe and US. She has worked for more than 12 years in the pharmaceutical industry. Prior to joining Takeda Pharmaceuticals in November 2015, she worked at GlaxoSmithKline (GSK) of increasing leadership in various territories. In Takeda, she heads the Japan Medical Affairs organization involving physicians, allied health care providers and those with advanced science degrees and her team is responsible for scientific exchange and evidence generation.

Bio: Brian Hepburn is the founder and CEO of the Envision Pharma Group, a full service, technology-enabled agency that supports Medical Affairs through scientific communication services and purpose-built technology solutions. During his 16-years at the helm, the Medical Affairs landscape has undergone extensive changes. Bio: Chris Hourigan is President, Janssen Japan and a member of the Janssen Asia Pacific Leadership Team. Before moving into his current role in Japan, Chris was the Managing Director for Janssen Australia & New Zealand (ANZ), where he developed strong business leaders among his team and also played a key role in supporting the local industry as a member of the Medicines Australia Board. Chris also initiated the development of a Johnson & Johnson signature program for disadvantaged indigenous populations in collaboration with the local J&J Board. Before leading Janssen ANZ, Chris was the Managing Director of Janssen Vietnam, where he focused on building a long-term strategy to drive transformational growth for the pharmaceutical business in this high growth AP market. Before this role, Chris was Country Manager for Janssen New Zealand and a board member of the industry association, Medicines New Zealand, and the Janssen Australia New Zealand Leadership Team. During 2008 and 2009, he was the Global Marketing Leader for Psychiatry based in the USA, where he led the development of the antipsychotic long-acting franchise, including Risperdal Consta and Invega Sustenna. Chris joined Johnson and Johnson through Janssen Australia in 2005, as the Marketing Manager for the General Medicine franchise. In 2006, he was appointed Associate Business Unit Director for CNS and also had Asia Pacific regional marketing responsibility for Concerta. In the 13 years before joining J&J, he worked for other pharmaceutical companies. Chris holds a Masters of Business Administration and a Bachelor of Applied Science.

Nobuhiko Ishizuka

Bio: After graduating from the veterinary pharmacology department at Gifu University, Ishizuka joined Chugai Pharmaceutical as a cardiovascular researcher. Bio: Dr. Laine is active in the world of medical journalism and holds leadership positions in the International Committee of Medical Journal Editors (ICMJE), the Council of Science Editors (CSE), and the Ethics Committee of the World Association of Medical Editors (WAME). She has been instrumental in the development of editorial policy about such issues as authorship and conflicts of interest in medical research. In addition to her work with Annals of Internal Medicine, Dr. Laine is a practicing physician and a Clinical Associate Professor in the Division of Internal Medicine at Jefferson Medical College. Dr. Laine first joined Annals in June 1995 as an Associate Editor, and became a Deputy Editor in 1998 and Senior Deputy Editor in April 2008. In July 2009, Dr. Laine became the Editor-in-Chief of Annals, and a Senior Vice President at the American College of Physicians.

Bio: Professor Peh is a Clinical Professor at the Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine, National University of Singapore (NUS). Professor Peh served as Chief Editor of the Singapore Medical Journal for three terms and is currently Advisor. He was past Chief Editor of Proceedings of Singapore Healthcare, Founding Chief Editor of the Hong Kong Journal of Radiology and currently Senior Editor of the British Journal of Radiology. His Editorial Board memberships (past or current) include journals such as Radiology, American Journal of Roentgenology, Skeletal Radiology, Seminars in Musculoskeletal Radiology and American Journal of Orthopedics. Professor Peh has been the Chief Examiner for the Master of Medicine (MMed) (Diagnostic Radiology), NUS, since 2002 and is Chairman of the NUS MMed (Diagnostic Radiology) Committee. Professor Peh specialises in musculoskeletal radiology. His other interests are medical writing and editing. To date, he has authored 8 books, more than 50 book chapters, more than 350 PubMed-listed journal publications, and has delivered more than 800 invited lectures. He and his co-authors have presented more than 250 scientific abstracts- many of which have won awards in regional and international meetings. He has been the organising chairman of several scientific writing workshops, radiology examination preparation courses, musculoskeletal teaching courses, and regional and international radiology congresses, including the 32nd Annual Scientific Meeting and Refresher Course of the International Skeletal Society held in Singapore in 2005. He is currently serving as President of the Asia-Pacific Association of Medical Journal Editors.

Bio: Professor Karen Woolley is Certified Medical Publication Professional. Beverley Yamamoto

Bio: Dr. Beverley Yamamoto is a professor in the field of Critical Studies in Education for Transformation in the Department of Kyosei Studies (Critical Studies in Coexistence, Symbiosis and Conviviality) in the Graduate School of Human Sciences at Osaka University, Japan. She supervisors doctoral and master's students working on issues in education, health and gender/sexuality. Dr. Yamamoto is also a patient advocate in the rare disease space. She has been President of the non-profit organization Hereditary Angioedema Japan (HAEJ) since 2013 and an Executive Committee member of HAE International, a registered charity, since 2014. She regularly speaks at rare disease and HAE specific conferences and meetings. She has recently carried out a major survey of HAE patients in Japan in a team with leading physician researchers in Japan and with the support of the pharmaceutical industry.
